What does a tax consultant do?

A tax consultant is a professional who specialises in tax matters. As tax advisors, we deal with advising individuals and companies on tax matters. This may involve income tax, corporate tax, sales tax and other tax matters. A tax adviser ensures that his or her clients are aware of their obligations and options, and provides assistance in completing tax returns and preparing notices of objection. Hiring a tax advisor can therefore be a good choice if you are not well versed in the complex laws and regulations relating to taxes.

What is the difference between an accountant and a tax advisor?

An accountant and a tax consultant are often mentioned in the same breath because their work overlaps to some extent. However, there are clear differences between the two. First of all, an accountant is a financial adviser who focuses on preparing financial reports and checking accounts. A tax consultant focuses purely on tax matters. Among other things, we advise on tax liability, deductions and tax regulations. We are not accountants.

What if I don't file my Dutch tax return?

Het is belangrijk om elk jaar op tijd aangifte te doen van je belasting. Als je dit niet doet, is de kans groot dat je een boete krijgt. Deze boete kan oplopen tot duizende euro’s. Daarnaast loop je het risico dat de belastingdienst een schatting maakt van je inkomen en daar belasting over heft. Dit kan veel hoger uitvallen dan wanneer je zelf aangifte had gedaan. Dus het is verstandig om op tijd je belastingaangifte te doen.
