As a freelancer in the Netherlands, you have access to multiple tax schemes. Some provide immediate financial benefits, while others mainly save you time and administrative burdens. The better you understand these schemes, the smarter you can use them. This not only leaves you with more profit, but also gives you more peace of mind in your business operations.
Consider the Dutch small business scheme (KOR)
Do you have an annual turnover below €20,000? Then the KOR scheme may be of interest to you. You do not have to charge VAT file a return, and your bookkeeping becomes a lot simpler. On the other hand, you cannot reclaim VAT on business expenses. This is particularly advantageous for entrepreneurs with low operating costs. Always make a calculation in advance to determine whether the KOR scheme is really worthwhile in your situation.
Take advantage of the private business ownership allowance
If you work at least 1,225 hours per year on your business, you are eligible for the private business ownership allowance. This is a fixed amount that you can deduct from your profits, which means you pay less tax. It sounds simple, and it is, as long as you keep a close eye on the conditions.

Benefit from the tax relief for new companies
Use the small projects investment credit (KIA)
If you invest in business assets such as computers, machinery, tools or a company car, the KIA may be of interest to you. The scheme applies to investments between €2,901 and €392,230. Within these limits, the more you invest, the greater the tax benefit. Please keep your invoices and proof of purchase carefully so that you do not miss out on anything when filing your tax return.
Keep your administration organised
Clear and up-to-date administration is the basis of every business. Keep track of income and expenses in a timely manner and save supporting documents carefully. This will prevent you from overlooking deductions or having to search for missing information later on. Good administration will also save you a lot of stress during the tax return period.
Although you can do a lot yourself, an accounting firm can help you get even more out of the tax opportunities available. We ensure that your tax return is submitted completely and correctly, that you don't overlook any schemes and that all deadlines are met. This gives you peace of mind and certainty, so you can focus on growing your business instead of on tax details. Would you like to know more? Please contact us.
